Looks even better in game.

Looks even better in game.

Further continuing with the debate between multirole/hybrid classes i am now going to talk about hybrids in Aion.

In Aion there is only really 1 hybrid class.  And one semi-hybrid. Chanter is the hybrid class of choice. He can deal damage almost as good as (performing to about 80% of)  a pure damage class, and he can heal almost as good as (performing to about 65% of) a cleric. A chanter can fill inthe role of healing or damage dealer, but either of those will be better than the chanter. Strangely enough a chanter not using a staff (their damage weapon) but using a mace and shield can Offtank. They dont have all the tricks and abilites as a templar, but since they canbuff themselves and put heal over times spells on themselves their enmity increases pretty quickly on mobs, and they can take quite a bit of damage.

Do you have it?

Do you have it?

The true difference in the end is Talents, and where the stats come from. If your class gains a secondary stat from one of your primary stats (like spell from stamina, agility or strength) it can be and probably is a hybrid (kittys can tank since agi gives dodge or even heal when talented, prot/ret pallys can heal, DKs can tank since strength gives parry, and their cooldowns are almost all available since many are untalented).

Multirole classes, when performing a certain role cannot be expected to fill in on another role. In the end, “hybrids” aren’t taking spots for “pures”, its roles vs roles, this tank vs another, caster vs melee, but single roles fighting for their spots. The only places where hybrids (as the ones that CAN do 2 roles) can take another roles spot, is when you know there is  a possibility that there will be a need for a filler.  Some examples:

Its good for the environment!

Its good for the environment!

What classes are hybrids then?

Retribution paladins. They can dps (duh!), and heal. A decent retribution paladin has around 800-1000 spellpower (30% of attack power), a ton of crit, and all flash of light crits leave a Heal over Time. Just to compare a recently geared 80 healer has around 1200 spellpower. Do not take this the wrong way, you won’t bring a ret pally as a healer to a raid, but they can heal in a pinch and for well over a minute.  (like our beloved eärendur saved the day in thorim hallway when the healer died)

Oh, shes Hawt!

Oh, shes Hawt! big, hot broodmother?

Well ladies and gentlemen, I’m not the only one returning on scene. Patch 3.2.2 (WoW) is out, and we will be seeing a lot moar dots… er dragons and pets and mounts. Many changes were made along with this patch, so make sure to check out your class changes before you go out and realize that fan of knives doesn’t interrupt anymore and your raid wipes on General Vezax.
